Many, rather detailed, reports surfaced today claiming that an Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion expansion was imminent. The stories stemmed from a listing on the Gamestop website for an Oblivion related product called Knights of the White Stallion. The retailer even accepted pre-orders before having the listing removed.
Many websites decided that the listing had to be an expansion for the highly successful game and many editors begun their quest for a release date. Bethesda's Pete Hines, V.P. of Marketing and Public Relations, had a very different take on the story:
There's no expansion in development called Knights of the White Stallion. That's the name of a quest in Oblivion.
Right now we have no announced plans for any new content, add-ons, or expansions. If that changes, we'll let folks know.
The above statement leaves us all pondering what the Gamestop listing was all about while many editors will have to re-evaluate their holiday 2006 guesses for the release of the Oblivion expansion. We are certain that at some point in time an expansion will surface but it is more likely to be announced sometime during 2007 (we couldn't help but add a date).
