Downloading 4K games on the Xbox One X will take a while

If you're are now, or soon will be, the proud new owner of an Xbox One X, then you need to be aware that 4K games mean big, big file sizes. In the case of some games like Gears of War 4 or Forza Motorsport 7, you'll have to download more than 100GB for those games apiece.

4K games mean big textures, which in turn mean much bigger file sizes. Although there is certainly a debate to be had about compression and the interest of developers to maintain a smaller footprint when everyone, even console gamers, have hundreds of gigabytes of space at their disposal, it's a fact of life now that modern games are becoming enormous affairs. That's been compounded by the focus on 4K resolutions with the Xbox One X and it means that anyone running that system better have a hefty download limit on their internet connection.

Gears of War 4 weighs in at 103GB, Halo 5 is 98GB, Quantum Break is 84GB -- and if you want the additional TV show segments that go hand in hand with the game, you're looking at another 75GB on top of that, as per Eurogamer.

Although most of these games were pretty large anyway, subsequent patches over the past couple of years and the addition of even more detailed textures and other improved visual elements have lead us to games that are edging north of triple-digit install sizes. That should mean there's a real merit to maintaining a game's disc, as otherwise, you'll only be able to install a few games at once -- or resort to slower, external storage solutions.

Who among you has been playing around with the Xbox One X? Have you had trouble with how big some of the games are?
