Kingdoms of Amalur to be fully remastered

Unfortunately unpopular RPG, Kingdoms of Amalur, may finally find the audience it deserves with a full remaster that looks to upgrade its graphics, improve its compatibility with modern systems, and make it readily available to gamers once again.

Originally developed by Big Huge Games and 38 Studios, Kingdoms of Amalur bankrupted the bigoted baseball star, Curt Schilling, costing over $50 million of his own money, and more than $75 million of state loan funds. It was an enormous project and many original players adored its mixture of classic RPG mechanics with its expansive world, story, and skill based levelling system. But it never garnered enough of an audience to really claw back its investments and was arguably too ambitious for everyone involved.

THQ Nordic ultimately picked up the rights to the game in 2018 and is now working on its re-release in August this year with Microsoft's help. Its official listing is now up on the Microsoft store, termed the Re-Reckoning.

It will reportedly include "stunning visuals and refined gameplay," and will deliver intense, customizable RPG combat inside a sprawling game world."

Specific changes have yet to be detailed, but we expect to learn more in the coming weeks.

Look out for Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning on August 18.
