The game about punting soccer balls into glowing nets with a rocket powered booster car, Rocket League, has hit 50 million players after just over three years of being on sale. The competitive, esport-driven game has maintained more than 50,000 active players every day since its release and its popularity shows no sign of waning any time soon.
Released in mid-2015, Rocket League got off to a great start by offering cross-platform play between PC and PlayStation players. The game debuted on the PSN Plus scheme, meaning millions of players have instant access to it, helping to flesh out the game's early days with free players. Those numbers swiftly grew across the board though and launches on other platforms like the Xbox One and Switch meant more players followed along.

Perhaps the most amazing part of this statistic is that the growth of the game continues apace in 2018. It's not like the 2017 milestone was 49 million. In fact, it was 40 million, showing that a full 10 million people have stepped inside the cockpit of their own rocket powered battle car this year alone.
How many of you are still playing Rocket League?
