Metacritic users were outraged when they found out that a BioWare developer masqueraded as a player and posted a user review giving Dragon Age 2 - which he co-developed - a perfect score.
Adding insult to injury, EA defended the developer's action.
Under the name "Avanost", the BioWare developer gave Dragon Age 2 a 10 out of 10 score in a user review that went as far as claiming that "the immersion and combat of this game are unmatched! A truly moving and fun epic. Anything negative you'll see about this game is an overreaction of personal preference. For what it is, it is flawlessly executed and endlessly entertaining."
After discovering Avanost's true identity Metacritic users became outraged for being deceived and questioned BioWare's ethics and integrity.
On the other hand, EA tried to downplay the matter as "the done thing", with an EA senior public relations manager claiming that "of course the people who make the game vote for their own game."
"That's how it works in the Oscars, that's how it works in the Grammy's and why I'm betting that Barack Obama voted for himself in the last election," they added.
Needless to say, the review has since been deleted.
